Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is non-flammable per GHS classification, mitigating storage and environmental health and safety concerns. Wear disposable non-reactive gloves (nitrile or neoprene) when working with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution.

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution can be used with the Form Wash V2 or the Form Wash L.

To wash parts in Formlabs Resin Washing Solution:

1. Fill your wash containers. Fill the wash bucket (e.g., of your Form Wash or Form Wash L) with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. Fill a separate container with water. Ensure the container is large enough so that printed parts can be fully submerged in water and that the container has a lid. Alternatively, IPA can be used instead of water for faster drying times.
2. Wash your printed parts as you would with IPA. Follow the guidelines in our support article Form Wash/Form Wash L time settings as a baseline.
3. When the wash cycle is complete, move your prints to the secondary container and let them soak in water for 30–60 seconds. No agitation is required.
• Ensure the parts are rinsed within eight hours of washing with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. If parts are wet with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution, they may swell and have reduced accuracy and mechanical performance.
4. Let the prints air dry. The parts will regain their normal appearance as they dry. Air drying takes 4–6 hours. Use compressed air to accelerate dry time to 30–60 seconds or a fan for parts to dry in 30–120 min.

5. Place the parts in the Form Cure or Form Cure L to finish post-processing. When post-curing, follow the recommendations for your resin for best results.

Cleaning the build platform

If the build platform has also been washed with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution, clean the build platform thoroughly before using it again.

1. Dry the build platform with a clean paper towel.
2. Remove any remaining resin or solution residue from the build platform using a paper tower wetted with IPA, then wipe the platform dry again.

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution has twice the longevity of IPA and minimal evaporation, leading to less frequent top-offs and full changeouts of washing solution. If a thin film of resin remains on printed parts after washing with the solution, the solution is overly saturated with resin and should be replaced.

Form Wash L V1 and Form Wash L V2 units with firmware version 1.4.0 or later can track the saturation of your Resin Washing Solution using the solvent monitor.

Alternatively, monitor the saturation of your solvent using a hydrometer. The hydrometer packaged with the Form Wash does not measure the correct range of specific gravity for use with Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. A hydrometer that can measure a specific gravity of 0.900–1.000 should be used instead, such as this one sold by Cole-Parmer. The specific gravity of fresh Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is 0.94. When the specific gravity of the used Resin Washing Solution is above 0.975, it will not be fully effective as a final wash.

The water bath loses effectiveness when it is oversaturated with dissolved Formlabs Resin Washing Solution. Replace the water regularly and dispose of the water-solution in accordance with local regulations.

Spilled Formlabs Resin Washing Solution does not present an immediate fire or health hazard, but it does leave an oily residue that can be slippery. The solution evaporates very slowly, so the spill won’t dry by itself.

To clean up a Formlabs Resin Washing Solution spill:

1. Put on a pair of disposable nitrile gloves.
2. Absorb excess solution with paper towels.
3. Clean up any remaining residue using wet paper towels.
4. Dispose of any tools used to clean up the spill (paper towels soaked with the solution, gloves coated in solution) with non-flammable hazardous waste according to local regulations.

Over time, Formlabs Resin Washing Solution accumulates dissolved liquid resin, which reduces its efficacy. For best surface quality, replace the solution once parts do not come out well.

Disposal

To safely dispose of contaminated Formlabs Resin Washing Solution:

1. Consult the safety data sheet as the primary source of information.
2. Research your local regulations for non-flammable hazardous waste disposal. This will most likely involve hiring a waste disposal service. For smaller amounts, check with your local waste disposal service to see if they have any suggestions for removal.
3. Provide your waste disposal service with the Formlabs Resin Washing Solution SDS and let them know that your waste also contains small amounts of methacrylated monomers and oligomers (unpolymerized plastic resin) and trace amounts of photoinitiator. Have a copy of the Formlabs resin safety data sheet (SDS) on hand in case the disposal service attendant needs more information.

Recycling

The Formlabs Resin Washing Solution container is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Empty containers of Resin Washing Solution can be recycled in accordance with local regulations.

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution has also not been tested or verified for safe use with the following resins:

• Alumina 4N Resin
• Castable Wax Resin
• PU Rigid 650 Resin
• PU Rigid 1000 Resin
• Flame Retardant Resin
• Flexible 80A Resin
• Elastic 50A Resin
• Silicone 40A Resin
• All Formlabs resins for biocompatible applications (e.g., BioMed Resins and dental resins)

Formlabs does not recommend using Resin Washing Solution to wash parts printed in the Tough family of resins, as it can leave them tacky to the touch:

• Tough 1000 Resin
• Tough 1500 Resin V2
• Tough 2000 Resin V2

Finish Kit

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is not intended for use in the Finish Kit rinse buckets, but can be used during the water soak.

Form Wash V2 and Form Wash L

Formlabs Resin Washing Solution is compatible for use with the Form Wash V2 and the Form Wash L wash buckets.

Form Cure and Form Cure L

The Form Cure does not vent air while operating, so any evaporated solvent will condense on the heater, fan, and internal surfaces. If a print that still has Formlabs Resin Washing Solution on it is placed in the Form Cure, the solution will evaporate off the print and condense on the inner surfaces of the Form Cure and Form Cure L. This can occasionally cause clouding on the reflective surfaces. Always let prints fully dry (whether they have been washed with IPA, TPM, water, or the Formlabs Resin Washing Solution) before placing them in the Form Cure or Form Cure L.

Formlabs SLA printers

Do not use Formlabs Resin Washing Solution to clean your Formlabs SLA printers, particularly optical surfaces.
